More About Women Writing Women

Women Writing Women was started in 2003 with a simple goal: to increase understanding in our world.  Women Writing Women works on the premise that if only the world’s people knew each other better, perhaps we could increase the possibilities for peace.  We plant small seeds of friendship, hoping they will grow.

Women Writing Women mails letters from American women to Muslim women in the Middle East.  Our simple desire is to nurture understanding between women.

We mail letters two to three times a year, and have sent letters to Izmir and Istanbul in Turkey, to East Jerusalem and to areas near the West Bank cities of Tulkarem and Ramallah.

We write with the knowledge that most of the women who read our letters will not respond.  That's OK.  We are sowing seeds of friendship, and that's our goal.  Perhaps a few who receive our letters may decide to answer, and a correspondence between you may bloom. Please remember that you’re planting kernels of understanding whether or not you receive a reply.  We don’t always see the blossoms of the seeds we plant. But that doesn’t stop us from planting them.
